Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc Faction Leader Kyrylenko Calls To Create Rada Investigation Commission On Construction Of Metallurgical Plan In Bila Tserkva (09:58, Wednesday, May 7, 2008)

MP Viacheslav Kyrylenko, the leader of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc faction at the Verkhovna Rada, has called to create a parliamentary investigation commission to tackle questions concerning construction of a metallurgical plant in Bila Tserkva in Kyiv region.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the press service of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc.

"The parliament ought to create a commission to study all questions concerning the construction of the metallurgical plant and all circumstances of issuance of corresponding permits for its construction," the press service quoted Kyrylenko as saying.

The leader of the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense Bloc faction has received a lot of complaints from residents of Bila Tserkva and the district.

While considering the question one should take into account the ecological consequences of the Chornobyl disaster for the district that may be aggravated by possible ecological problems related to the exploitation of the metallurgical plant.

"I personally object to deployment of another ecologically harmful production facility in Bila Tserkva, which has already suffered from a big number of ecological troubles," Kyrylenko said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in April, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko vowed there would be no construction in Bila Tserkva without consent from the community.

On April 9, 150 residents of Bila Tserkva rallied outside the Cabinet of Ministers in protest against plans to build a metallurgical plant in their city.
