The Industrial Policy Ministry has moved forward with an initiative to preserve the car import duty at 25% by 2009.
Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Industrial Policy Ministry.
On March 21, to pursue the support to the motor-car construction industry, the Industrial Policy Ministry sent a letter to the Economy Ministry and proposed to preserve the car import duties in 2008 at the current level and reduce them to 10% in 2009.
In a draft bill, the Economy Ministry proposed to cut the car import duties from 25% to 10% from the day of Ukraine's joining the World Trade Organization.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on February 5, Ukraine and the World Trade Organization agreed on Ukraine's joining the WTO.
On June 23, 2005, the Verkhovna Rada increased the car import duty by 5% to 25%.
