Experts with the Oleksandr Razumkov Centre for Economic and Political Studies are recommending the Cabinet of Ministers to establish a National Agency for European Integration.
Ukrainian News has learned this from an analytical report entitled "Hundred days of new power: evaluation of actions in the context of observing democratic values".
In particular, experts are proposing to create legal basis enabling the agency, as the chief body in shaping and pursuing Ukraine's European integration policy in the system of central bodies of executive power, to efficiently perform coordination functions at the interagency level, to work out and introduce strategic and program documents concerning integration of Ukraine into the European Union.
Besides, experts are suggesting that the Cabinet work out a new variant of the Strategy of Ukraine's Integration in European Union, considering current state of cooperation with the EU, results of implementation of the Ukraine - EU Action Plan, prospects of concluding a new, enhanced agreement with the EU.
As Ukrainian News reported, in December 2007, Foreign Affairs Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said the main priority in his ministry's work should be given to preparation of the new enhanced agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.
In November 2007 one more time the European Parliament voiced the idea of giving Ukraine a prospect of membership in the European Union in the new agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
Ukraine and the European Union agreed to extend their existing Partnership and Cooperation Agreement if the signing of a new, enhanced agreement is delayed.
In March 2007 Ian Boag, the head of the European Commission's delegation to Ukraine, pronounced an opinion that the negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union on the new agreement would take more than one year.
