Tymoshenko Looking To Agree With Russia On Long-Term Gas Supplies By September (17:11, Thursday, March 27, 2008)

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is looking to Ukraine and Russia sign a long-term contract on gas supplies by September.

She made this statement during the meeting with representatives of foreign diplomatic corps.

Tymoshenko noted, today the question of gas deliveries from Russia is regulated, but only for 2008.

"There are some problems left, it seems to me that in course of further Ukraine - Russia talks they must be solved," she said.

The premier underlined, Ukraine has stepped in negotiations on signing a long-term agreement with Russia on gas supplies.

"... which would fix an approach towards gas price formation, i.e. a kind of time lag for we to have an opportunity to end up with market prices of natural gas and also to understand dynamics of prices for transit of Russian gas," said the premier.

In her words the government hopes for signing such a strategic agreement as soon as possible.

"We'd like this to be done before autumn... We want to decide this in summer and we are working on this," Tymoshenko said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on March 12 Naftohaz Ukrainy and Gazprom signed an agreement on development of gas relations.

According to the agreement, in March - December 2008 Ukraine is supplied with at least 49.8 billion cubic meters of Central and Middle Asian gas at a price of USD 179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters.
