Tymoshenko Not To Support Idea Of Ukraine's Unilateral Revision Of Agreement On Russian Fleet In Crimea (14:09, Thursday, March 27, 2008)

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she will never support the idea of Ukraine's unilateral revision of the Ukrainian-Russian agreement on the functioning and stationing of Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea.

Tymoshenko gave her position in an interview with the Russian Argumenty Nedeli newspaper.

"Whatever relations and agreements exist between partners - they may be good or not very good - the world practice is to obey them. Otherwise, we will sink into chaos," Tymoshenko said.

Tymoshenko said it would be an irresponsible step revising existing agreements unilaterally.

"Being the prime minister and a person of responsibility, I will never move forward with an initiative to unilaterally revise concluded agreements, including on the Black Sea Fleet," Tymoshenko said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Russia described as constructive the talks with Ukraine on the issues of functioning and stationing of Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine.

President Viktor Yuschenko has guaranteed that Ukraine will abide by the provisions of the agreement on the status of Russia's Black Sea Fleet and the conditions under which it is stationed in Ukraine. The agreement expires in 2017.
