Socialist Party Plans To Take Part In Protests Again NATO Membership In Kyiv March 31 (13:44, Thursday, March 27, 2008)

The Socialist Party has plans to take part in protest rallies against Ukraine's membership in NATO in Kyiv on March 31.

According to the statement, the rally should start on Maidan Nezalezhnosti at noon.

The party members believe that the event may grow into an ongoing protest in case the Bucharest summit give its consent to Ukraine's joining the Membership Action Plan.

"The Socialist Party believes that when drawing Ukraine into NATO, the president and ruling coalition purposefully and cynically ignore the will of people, grossly violating the obligations undertaken by Ukraine not to take part in military blocs," the statement reads.

The party also says that on April 1, they will be blocking the President's Secretariat due to Yuschenko's meeting with American President George Bush.

Apart from this, the socialists, jointly with followers of other political forces, are planning to set up a tent camp on Khreschatyk Street that will be functioning several days.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, earlier planned to hold the event on March 30.

The Communist Party and Progressive Socialist Party are also planning to hold mass protest rallies against Ukraine's accession to NATO on March 31.

On March 31 - April1, George Bushll pay an official visit to Ukraine.
