The Transport and Communications Ministry has plans to raise the quality and comfort of passenger transportations by railway.
This follows from a statement by the ministry's press service.
"The functional task of the ministry is to increase the quality and comfort of passenger transportations by railway, to improve technical and sanitary state of carriages," the press service cited Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Volodymyr Badahov as saying.
As the official noted, the corresponding decision was made following the meeting on checks of sanitary and technical conditions of passenger cars.
The checks were conducted in 32 trains in Konotop, Sumy, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv and Uzhhorod directions on March 17-19.
The inspectors discovered a number of shortcomings in sanitary and technical state of cars and work of personnel.
According to Badahov, one of the key tasks is to increase safety and quality of services.
"We should apply all efforts to increase safety of traveling, to influence on the so-called human factor, particularly, work of car attendants," Badahov said.
As he noted, first of all, attention will be paid to provision of inventory and other equipment to car attendants, increasing responsibility for thorough checks of all cars before every departure, improvements in personnel policy, particularly selection of personnel and elaboration of the labor remuneration classifier.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, before 2009, the Transport and Communications Ministry plans to increase railway passenger fares by 15%.
