Wounded Ukrainian Peacekeeper Undergoes Surgery In Ukraine, Others Receive Treatment In Kosovo (15:59, Sunday, March 23, 2008)

One of the peacekeepers wounded in Kosovo has undergone a surgery operation in Ukraine and others are being treated in Kosovo.

Ukrainian News learned this from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the report, four wounded servicemen are staying at the UN central clinic in Kosovo, one of them has undergone a surgery operation in a German military hospital in Prizren.

Fifteen people are receiving treatment at the medical station of the task force peacekeeping contingent of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Gnjilane.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Marinich, a wounded senior lieutenant of the police, on doctor’s order was taken to Ukraine on a UN special-purpose plane and is currently undergoing treatment at the central hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs where he has had an operation.

Now the patient is getting better.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on March 17, one Ukrainian peacekeeper was killed and twenty were injured when militants fired shots at a police post in Kosovo.

Despite the accident, the National Security and Defense Council decided on March 21 that Ukraine should continue its peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and other countries.

On February 17, Kosovo proclaimed independence.

The Serbian government decided not to recognize the independence of Kosovo.
