Tax Administration Notes Increase In Applications For VAT Refund (16:17, Tuesday, March 18, 2008)

The State Tax Administration has noted an increase in the number of applications for refund of value-added tax since the start of this year.

The State Tax Administration's deputy head Serhii Lekar announced this at a meeting of the Council of Investors, which operates under the auspices of the Cabinet of Ministers.

"Applications for refund of value-added tax have increased," Lekar said.

He added that applications for refund of value-added tax totaling about UAH 3 billion were received in January and February, compared with the average of about UAH 2 billion.

The State Tax Administration plans to step up refund of value-added tax primarily to exporters.

According to Lekar, value-added tax will be refunded to only exporters in March in order to minimize the government's debt in this area.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Finance Minister Viktor Pynzenyk has accused the State Tax Administration of delaying refund of value-added tax.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has criticized the work of the State Tax Administration in the January-February period.

According to the State Tax Administration, value-added tax totaling UAH 7.1 billion was generated during the January-February period.
