President Viktor Yuschenko is sure that the Verkhovna Rada will soon ratify the protocol on Ukraine's entry to the World Trade Organization.
He said this during a ceremony of distribution of awards for fruitful work on Ukraine's accession to WTO.
"Ukraine has acceded to the WTO protocol. I am sure that in the nearest time we will pass all procedures in the Ukrainian parliament, in the political legislative institution. We will get a positive decision," the President said.
He noted that Ukraine's accession to WTO has taken up many efforts and energy and that entry to this organization is the first successful project that the Ukrainian business elite has brought into life together with the Ukrainian authorities in the past fifteen years.
At the same time, Yuschenko stressed that Ukraine still has a more thorough and labor-intensive work to do on its way to creating a free trade area with the European Union.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, leader of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense bloc's parliamentary faction Viacheslav Kyrylenko said the Verkhovna Rada is ready to ratify Ukraine's accession to the World Trade Organization right after the Foreign Affairs Ministry submits relevant documents to the parliament.
Ukraine agreed on its entry to the WTO.
On February 5, the WTO Council General approved Ukraine's accession to the organization.
After signing of the relevant agreements, Ukraine will have to ratify the endorsed decision not later than July 4, 2008.
After the ratification, Ukraine will obtain membership in the WTO during 30 days.
Participation in the WTO will allow domestic producers to receive freer access to the other countries' markets and access of foreign goods to Ukrainian market.
The WTO unites over 150 countries.
