Political scientists and politicians consider it necessary to simultaneously hold early mayoral, municipal-council, and district-council elections in Kyiv.
This is indicated by the results of a poll that was conducted among the participants in the meeting of a club of experts that focused on the topic "Ukrainian Choice: Early Elections in Kyiv, Its Appropriateness, Forecasts, and Format," which took place on March 5.
According to the respondents in the poll, early mayoral elections are the only way out of the crisis in Kyiv.
They also expressed the view that the political forces that are most interested in early elections in Kyiv are the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc, and - to a certain extent - the Party of the Regions.
Meanwhile, they disagreed on the need for and the possibility of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc nominating a single candidate if early mayoral elections are held in Kyiv: some experts believe that a single candidate is needed in order to focus the votes of voters while some believe that the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc will not be able to reach agreement on such long-term work.
According to Oleksii Holobutskyi, the deputy director of the Agency for Modeling Situations, it is necessary to simultaneously hold early mayoral, municipal-council, and district-council elections in Kyiv because of the difficulty of applying the norms of the imperative mandate to deputies of local councils.
"Moreover, if early mayoral elections to the municipal council re held, up to 15% of electoral resources that are presently formally assigned to such virtual projects as GAK will be potentially freed up," Holobutskyi said.
The meeting of the club of experts on "Ukrainian Choice: Early Elections in Kyiv, Its Appropriateness, Forecasts, and Format" was jointly organized by the Ukrainian News information agency and the Agency for Modeling Situations.
The club is aimed at creating an avenue for discussing pressing sociopolitical issues and creating effective mechanisms for cooperation between experts and politicians.
