Chairman of the eponymous bloc faction in the Kyiv City Council Vitalii Klychko does not rule out that Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi may be dismissed through the impeachment vote by two thirds of the council deputies.
Klychko told this at a meeting of the expert club "Ukrainian Choice: Early Elections in Kyiv: Expediency, Forecasts, Format" organized by Ukrainian News and the Situation Modeling Agency.
"The Kyiv council is not functioning because the present mayor is worried - in the new format, he may be dismissed from the post by the majority of two thirds," Klychko said.
He recalled that this was one of the ways to dismiss Chernovetskyi ahead of term.
At the same time, Klychko still expects that the Verkhovna Rada would appoint the early election of the mayor and Kyiv City Council.
He believes that the parliament has enough grounds for the step, particularly regular violations of the regulations and legislation by the Kyiv City Council in allocation of land plots.
According to him, during the 25 sessions held in 2007, the council made 970 land decisions, including 326 ones voted without draft decisions.
Klychko is confident that the snap mayoral election should be held in two rounds, with a single candidate from the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense.
"In case of the early election...they will be using technologies to spread the votes, so we'll need a single candidate agreed by many forces," he said.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the BYT faction in the Kyiv City Council does not rule out dismissal of Chernovetskyi through impeaching credibility of the mayor by two thirds of the city council.
The Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense bloc agreed in October 2007 to form a coalition in the sixth parliament and initiate early mayoral and municipal-council elections in Kyiv.
